LuraWave SmartCompress represents a powerful tool to compress digital images and graphics. It allows you to convert the most commonly used image formats, such as Windows Bitmap, Portable Pixelmap, Portable Graymap, TIFF and JPEG to the LuraTech Wavelet Fomat (*.lwf) or to the new international image compression standard JPEG2000 (*.jp2).

The compression rate can be chosen arbitrarily from lossless to extremely high compression. Even truly lossless compression can, depending on the image, result in compression rates of 1:1.5 to 1:5. Alternatively images can be compressed to a given visual quality of the reconstructed image.

Both LuraWave LWF and LuraWave JP2 (JPEG2000) are based on wavelet technology. This makes them ideally suited for digital photography, image archives, X-Ray diagnostics and the transfer of digital image data.
