Cannibal Holocaust is not only one of the most misunderstood and under-appreciated horror movies, it is one of the best. Regardless of unfortunate choice of titles, this film offers so much more than conventional horror movies. This film is hard to stomach, and the violence is often so intense and real that this would never make it past US censors, but underneath the carnage is an allegory of give and take in nature. The story may seem senseless, and the directing aimless, but upon a second or third viewing, the slightest details begin to reveal themselves, shedding a new light on the film. Regardless of the viewer's perception of the quality of the film, one thing is always consensus: this is an intense film. Even for the most violence-numbed people, the scenes of torture and cruelty can begin to take their toll; as if that wasn't enough, the extremely emotional score makes certain scenes almost not watchable.
