CASONOVA is loosely based on the memoirs of the writer, adventurer, and infamous lover Giacomo Casanova--themselves notably unreliable--and fortunately has no pretensions to historical realism. Instead, it's a witty, lighthearted romantic comedy, which uses its 18th century setting and renowned hero as a jumping-off point for sexy banter and ruminations on love, lust, and freedom. Directed with visual flair and wit by Lasse Hallström--a master of classy period pieces like CHOCOLAT and CIDER HOUSE RULES--the movie was filmed on location in Venice, and the stunningly gorgeous scenery is almost a character in its own right. Heath Ledger, believable and engaging here in a role that couldn't be more different from his powerhouse performance in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, turns on all of his considerable charms here. Abandoned by his mother as a child, Casanova has grown into a lascivious yet oddly innocent young man, who pursues pleasure wholeheartedly and mistakes lust for love. His biggest concern is eluding Italy's puritanical Inquisitors, until he meets Francesca Bruni (Sienna Miller), a beauty who publishes clever pamphlets on women's rights under a pen name. In the time-honored tradition, Casanova is instantly smitten with the one woman in Venice who doesn't want anything to do with him. The plot provides few surprises, but that is beside the point; the pleasures of CASANOVA are in its warm freewheeling tone, its sumptuous visuals, and the cheerful exuberance of its actors. In addition to Ledger's winning star turn, Lena Olin is her usual mesmerizing self as Francesca's scheming mother, and the reliably excellent Oliver Platt (as Francesca's overmatched fiancé) and Jeremy Irons (as the frustrated head Inquisitor) both deliver deft comic performances. |

Based on a popular series of video games, DOA: DEAD OR ALIVE is set on an exotic island where a group of extraordinary men and women face off against each other in a single-elimination fighting competition for a $10 million winner-take-all prize. The film focuses on three main competitors: Tina Armstrong (Jaime Pressly), a professional wrestler who wants to prove to herself, and the world, that she's not a fake; Princess Kasumi (Devon Aoki), who has gone against the laws of her kingdom by escaping on her own in order to search for her missing brother (Collin Chou), a former DOA participant; and Christie (Holly Valance), who, along with the mysterious Max (Matthew Marsden), is more interested in the $100 million locked away in a hidden vault than in the fighting prize. But the winner is going to have to get past some of the toughest men in the world, including Tina's father (real-life professional wrestler Kevin Nash) and island favorite Bayman (real-life six-time World's Strongest Man champion Derek Boyer). Meanwhile, behind the scenes, geeky nerd Weatherby (Steve Howey) is rooting for Helena (Sarah Carter), whose late father started the event, which is now in the hands of the questionably motivated Donovan (Eric Roberts). DOA: DEAD OR ALIVE was helmed by longtime Hong Kong actor, director, writer, and action director Corey Yuen (THE TRANSPORTER, KISS OF THE DRAGON) and features music by Junkie XL. |

Kung Fu Dunk, formerly known as Slam Dunk is a film that is inspired by the Slam Dunk manga and anime series and is almost like an imitation of Shaolin Soccer by incooperating Kung Fu into sports. The film revolves around an orphaned boy, Shi-Jie (Jay Chou) who grew up in a kung fu university but get thrown out of the university after making trouble at a nightclub. Eventually, he meets Wang-Li (Eric Tsang) who discovers Shi-Jie’s talents and Wang-Li is keen to make Shi-Jie his cash cow.On the excuse of helping him search for his long lost parents, Wang-Li invited him to play basketball at the First University. After joining the basketball team, Shi-Jie is often distracted by Li-Li (Charlene Choi), sister of Ting-Wei (Bo-Lin Chen), the captain of First University basketball team. In order to get the attention of Li-Li, Shi-Jie competes with Xiao-Lan (Baron Chen) but the conflicts between each other when Ting-Wei helps Shi Jie to combine his Kung-Fu with the important basketball techniques. After winning games after games, finally First University meets its major competitor in a team led by Lee Tien, a former captain of First University basketball team, who has betrayed them in the previous season. Lee Tien also used to taunt Ting-Wei by telling the tale of what he has done to Ting-Wei’s girlfriend. Ting-Wei has resorted to drink alcohol to overcome this.Earlier, Wang-Li has made great efforts to persuade four grand masters from the kung fu university in which Shi-Jie grows up to take up a challenge at the last moment. With Ting-Wei and Xiao-Lan both injured, will Shi-Jie manage to overcome this obstacle and win the championship?
