Wolverine has to patch up the team of X-Men after the death of Jean Grey and Professor Xavier, using his leadership skills.
There are to support Wolverine Cyclops, Beast, Storm, Kitty Pryde, Emma Frost, Nightcrawler, Angel, Colossus, Iceman, Rogue, Polaris, Jubilee, Dazzler, Psylocke, Pyro and Gambit.
Among the enemies, however, stand out Magneto, Juggernaut, Sabretooth, Mystique, Toad, Blob, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Among the other hand, there are special appearances Senator Kelly, John Wraith and the Hulk.
Was later discovered that Professor Xavier, who fell into a coma, he regained consciousness two decades in the future, in a reality where the Sentinels have taken control of the world as a result of the division of the X-Men and the outbreak of war between mutants and humans. Talking through space-time Cerebro Xavier manages to help his pupils to stop the war, but a new and terrible future, takes its place: the era of Revelation.

The story begins with a sudden explosion at the Xavier mansion which was initially perceived among the X-Men to be an attempted attack by an unknown assailant, targeted at telepaths, particularly involving Professor Charles Xavier and Jean Grey, who consequently go missing in the immediate aftermath. The resulting trauma caused the X-Men team to disband and go their separate ways, leaving Xaviers once highly revered league of mutant peace preservers out of commission.
